Tapas Tarea

Between classes today I checked my email and had a Facebook message from Wolfang, telling me to call him after my classes were over. I did, and we ended up going out for tapas, and then sitting in a gorgeous park and talking until 1 a.m. I loved it! I enjoy group activites with all of my Mormon friends, but I prefer 1-on-1 conversation (since it forces me to talk more, rather than sit on the sidelines), and Wolfang is the most patient and easiest to understand and most interesting person to talk to. (I was still very annoyed with Geronimo at this point) We covered a billion topics -- movies, music, friends, cultural difference between Venezuela/Spain/US, and LOTS of church stuff. For a good hour we must have just babbled about our favorite general conference talks. With those talks, like with the scriptures, I´ve discovered here that the fact I have all of my scripture mastery memorized, or quotes from the talks memorized, avails me almost nothing -- because I don´t have the "official" translation memorized in Spanish. So I have to paraphrase everything. *sigh*. Wolfang showed off at one point, while I was trying to quote an article of faith (and thus paraphrasing), by reciting all 13 in Spanish.

I like hanging out with Wolfang...while this really was another date (after all, he paid again), it´s...well, we seem to have reached an unspoken understanding that chatting and maybe flirting a little bit is fun, but we both know anything more of a "fling" would be completely pointless, so we´re just good friends. I love it. There´s no pressure, no awkwardness, just an American and a Venezuelan spending tons of time together. I love righteous Mormon boys!

I did all of this instead of working on my presentation for Tuesday. I concluded that talking for 4 hours in Spanish was better practice than adding animation to my slides would be. I think I made a good decision. :) (It´s awesome how I can count going out with people as "homework") At the end of the evening I actually asked Wolfang if he had noticed improvement in my Spanish between now and 6 weeks ago, and he profusely assured me that my improvement was significant. Yay!
