Italian Taste

Tomorrow I think I will give my first full discourse on some British political issues. I started work on my Muslims in the UK paper today, and now have some thoughts spinning.

In the meantime, I spent the past two days in Tooting, the constituency office. I knew I live in a touristy ritzy district of London, but I didn’t realize how much so until I went to Tooting, realized everyone was not dressed in the most fashionable of clothing, and noticed that prices were about 1/3 lower.

The best part of the two days was the sandwich shop across the street owned by an awesome Italian guy. I wish I knew how to write the dialect of a thick Italian accent, but any attempts would fail miserably. I just want to assure you that friendly genuine Italians in real life have amazing accents, which are far more impressive than any you might have seen portrayed in soap operas or Hollywood movies.

He made me yesterday the best sandwich I’ve had since I arrived in Britain. Upon giving it to me he said “I make you excellent sandwich. I have not seen you before, but after this sandwich, I think you will be a regular.”

When I took the first bite, he had me forever. So today I went back and he was thrilled. I told him to make me anything he wanted, since I trusted his judgment from yesterday. I upfront stated that his sandwich had been the best I had eaten in London so far. The café was full, and most people heard me, so Tony seemed to think I was good for publicity. I don’t regret it either; today’s sandwich was equally amazing. When he discovered I worked in Parliament he pretended to try and ask me for insider treatment. I hope I go back to Tooting at least once more, because I’m in love with that Italian café. Friendly, great food, reasonable prices, amazing customer service, entertaining Italian accent – it’s the sort of experience that London is all about!

I should have taken a picture of the cafe, but I forgot. So sorry!

How far is it to Tooting? Maybe you could go back on Saturdays for more sandwiches.

Have you tried Indian food yet?

Actually, I haven't tried Indian food yet. We were heading towards one of the Indian districts of London last week to eat dinner, when the Indian guy from my program who was leading us got lost, so we went to an Italian place instead.
