I woke up around 10, took a shower, and made myself look cute for the day. Then I read more of my book for a while, and then Joseph arrived around 1 for us to embark on an adventurous day. We spent the entire afternoon in the National Gallery of Art. The place is gigantic!!! I got completely lost inside of it, and all of its various collections and famous paintings. I’ve never been in a real art museum like that before. But everywhere I turned were Holbeins and Rembrandts and Rafaels and oodles more amazing works of art. I wished my most wonderful art history friend (Emily!) had been there to explain what I was seeing even more lucidly. I did remember the tip she told me once about how dogs symbolized loyalty, so it was interesting to see the huge plethora of wedding and church sacrament and military coronation types of paintings where there was always a cute puppy prominently displayed on the floor. We then took a stroll down the Queen’s Walk, which is a pier of sorts which runs along the
From the recommendation of several people, we then went to an Indian restaurant, which was amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Finally, we wandered around

Also, I've retroactively posted pictures. Instead of giving you full captions though, I'm just going to artistically title them. (Blame the gallery!)

Carolyn,
It's helpful to know that art history and music history move together. Think of the four great periods of music history: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern. Then think of how composers constructed their music in each period. Painters did similar things. During the baroque era, Bach wrote elaborate ornmentation into his music. Painters designed art to include elaborate, ornate details then.
During the Romantic period, music expressed emotion in new ways, such as the crescendo and decrescendo. This is mirrored in art with new styles that simplified the backgrounds and focused instead on what the people in the picture were feeling.

I remember visiting the National Gallery when I was 15, and I still remember it to this day. I bought postcards of my favorite paintings.
I always laugh at your fun stories - especially the one about the shirt.
