Yay Obama!!! Congratulations McCain! I love election days. Obama supporters were everywhere in the district today, it was rather fun to watch. I have to admit, I’ve never really appreciated elections as much, living in Indiana, as I have in DC and working in Florida last month. I mean, come on, I’m actually seeing presidential ads on television. It’s Brilliant! I also won my informal wager with Cheryl that McCain would still be able to pull out Virginia. She thought Huckabee would muster enough support in the South and West to win. I thought it possible – but bet on McCain due to the large numbers/high density of administration employees in Northern VA. The only point of analysis I thought favored Huckabee was that, as I heard several people remark today, Virginia had an open primary. So lots of the independents and even some of the conservatives who would have voted for McCain turned and voted for Obama instead, because the Democratic election had more at stake. So, if McCain had lost any significant number of his independents to the Obama-factor, Huckabee could have made it close. But…discussion is slightly mute, because he lost. (Even if he is “expecting a miracle, every day,”) This means I won.
Watching CNN after American Idol tonight, I marveled on one thing. (note: two of the most highly praised contestants by the judges, including the 16-year old adorable boy – Mormons! At least, I’m assuming any boy that clean-cut looking from Murray, Utah is Mormon.) Obama was speaking in Wisconsin to a packed arena, and midway through McCain started his victory speech. The difference in tone was like night and day. McCain is not a bad speaker by any means – he certainly tells good stories and jokes, and you believe what he’s saying, and he isn’t prone to Bushisms…but Obama, wow. For a long time I thought the praise of his speaking skills was a trifle overdone. With more frequent exposure, I’ve completely changed my mind now. He’s electrifying.
Lastly, I discovered the most amazing thing today. It was linked off of one of my newspaper’s websites. Custom M&Ms!! They’re totally awesome!! I spent several minutes coming up with different slogans. (Indiana Hoosiers, in Cream & Crimson, for instance). Seriously, who wouldn’t want personalized M&M’s? I think I’m going to be really tempted to make M&Ms in my wedding colors, with the respective names of the Bride and Groom, the centerpieces at my reception. (Sorry, my roommate’s wedding planning has that on my mind.)
