Leaping Lackeys!

I was officially accepted to my Granada, Spain, summer program today! I’ll be there from late May to early August.

Today was exhausting. We have six total interns in Lugar’s office, but several of them only work half days here and there, and everyone can take one day a week completely off. Thus, on any given day, we usually have four. Friday should have been an “any given day”, but one girl’s boyfriend was visiting, so she took it off, and another one was on spring break. Thus, we had two. Apparently “leap day” is celebrated in the Senate by causing interns to do an exorbitant amount of leaping to do the staff’s bidding. Of course, the staff didn’t realize there were only two, so they kept calling up to the intern station with random errands and assignments. On top of our more hefty assignments, it made for an absolutely insane day. We’re supposed to be assigned various tasks depending on the day, but yesterday I became “all-purpose girl.” I wrote a memo, and started a letter which didn’t get finished by me because I had to give a tour, and sat in on a meeting with a lobbyist type guy, and transcribed the voicemails, and darted all over several buildings delivering letters and speeches, and acquiring office supplies, and other sundry items. Of course, I did all of this in heels. I wore comfortable ones so my feet didn’t hurt at the end of the day, but my calves did. I’m starting to think I may end up with really well defined calves by the end of this semester. In any case, even if I came home and snuggled up in my bed and refused to do anything for the rest of the evening, it was a happy day. I love feeling busy and productive – I am far more cheerful actually making valuable contribution to the team than reading the newspaper for four hours a day, taskless.
